Life for Jaicyn has never been easy. Her mother is a drug addict that disappears for weeks on end thus leaving Jaicyn raising her two younger sisters. Rayshawn Moore and his twin brother Dayshawn have had it with the world they live it. Their beloved mother was killed by her husband the twin’s father. Since then, they have lived with their father’s parents who raise them out of a sense of duty rather than loving the boys. Both have plans to get out of Washington Heights; but their plans are drastically different. Dayshawn turns to books while his twin turns to the streets.
Rayshawn meets Jaicyn and a new school Bonnie and Clyde are formed. Rayshawn helps Jaicyn with making ends meet since her mother disappears frequently. Things go great until CPS gets wind that Jaicyn’s mother has been locked up for a week and no one is home with the kids. During their investigation, they find a stash of Rayshawn’s drugs. Jaicyn opts not to talk and gets sent to Job Corp.
Two years later, Jaicyn is fresh from Job Corp with a new job and outlook on life. She is working at a real estate firm and seeking custody of her sisters who were now in foster care. Her mother is strung out and living in an apartment with other known drug addicts. It will be an uphill battle but one she is willing to take. It has been two years since she saw Rayshawn and she doesn’t want to see him now. He stopped writing her and taking her calls. After returning, Rayshawn makes clear that he never wanted to leave her. Back together again, there is nothing that these two can’t accomplish, whether good or bad.
Jackie Chanel’s urban love story tells the ins and outs of the drug game. It shows the hard life in the city and what it takes to make it out. This story was an easy read that pulls you in immediately. Though Jaicyn and Rayshawn are criminals, you root for them; you want them to win!
Only issue with this book is editing. Sometimes the names of the twins were transposed but reading the content you knew which twin she was talking about; other than that, I love this story. Looking for to the next adventure of Jay-Jay and Rayshawn in Atlanta!

Good review! It would be interesting to read to see how this book is different from others in the genre and to see if it has a fresh perspective on the ‘drug game.’
