When the Characters Speak #6 – See Me – Adrienne Thompson

Here are a few words I’d like to share from one of my most memorable and most controversial characters. Here’s Dr. David Moy’s (From the novel See Me) take on love:

Have you ever been in love, truly in love? The love I speak of is not the passing, fleeting love of youth. Not the love-disguised lust of the body. Not the love that comes in the form of hasty words spoken with no weight behind them. I’m speaking of devastatingly, overwhelmingly real love. Have you ever loved another so much that you despised them for their utter possession of your heart? Have you ever felt that? Has that form of love been a reality in your life?

For me, that love has a name and a face—the face of a beautiful angel. She is as close to perfection as God has ever come in creating a human being. From the moment I laid eyes on her, she slayed me, pulled me into her captivity, and refused to release me. She, for me, is real love—love in the form of irresistible flesh and bone. She, for me, is the reason I breathe. She is my reason for living. She is my jailer, my master, my captor. She holds my life in her hands. Without her, could I even go on living? Would there be a purpose for my living?

My devotion to her is evident in the volumes of works I’ve penned. Who can deny our love? Who would dare deny my piety? I make no secret of the truth that I worship her. I will not deny that she is my deity, my serenity, my divinity. She saved me in many ways, so I am justly beholden to her. Then again, she destroyed me with her love, yet what a sweet destruction it is. What a beautiful death I die every time I look into her eyes. Yes, prodigious love for me has a name and a face, the face of my muse, my love, my life. That face and name belong to Olivia Moy.
