moreChante Britt is nobody’s fool—and she’s definitely not standing by her cheating ex-fiancé and current mayoral candidate, Robert Montgomery. Too bad he chose to tell the media otherwise. To escape an onslaught of prying reporters, Chante flees to her grandmother’s South Carolina beach house. But when...
Rumors. Rumors. Rumors. Rumors destroy lives. Rumors cause pain. Rumors steal identities, but sometimes rumors can take a person to a place you never imagined.
I HEARD A RUMOR by Cheris Hodges is a romantic novel based on he said she said conversations and conniving interactions. The drama inspired by Author Hodges makes you think twice about your relationships and if you truly know your mate.
I was hesitant about reading the second novel in the series since I have not read the first installment. However, Author Hodges does an excellent job of providing the history of the characters, but I will read the first novel because I want to see just how dirty some of the characters were in the first novel.
The only issue I had with I HEARD A RUMOR was the quick decision by the main character, Chante, to retreat and become quickly involved with someone else, Zach. It did not seem realistic since Chante as well as Zach were both dealing with relationship issues. Since Chante is an outstanding attorney, I also expected her to be able to withstand a little bit more heat from the rumors before retreating. Several times throughout the novel, I wanted to strangle some of the characters with their rumor spreading and low down dirty ways. I couldn’t wait to see how Author Hodges made sure they got every bit of what they deserved.
Initially, I thought this would just be another girl meets guy love story. Author Hodges made this novel more than the typical love story and provided a well-written novel with several twists and turns based on rumors. The love scenes were steamy but tastefully written so that the reader could experience the same feelings as the characters.
I HEARD A RUMOR keeps you wondering what else could happen to the characters. Can Chante and Zach live their lives after the rumors? Or has too much damage been done for either character to recover and move on? Do the rumors continue to spread and wreak havoc on innocent people? I HEARD A RUMOR is worth reading to find out.
