moreMonica Sutton has spent most of her life detesting her reflection. Her best friends love her no matter what, but she just cannot see the woman they see in her. She finally decides to do something about the way she looks and discovers herself during the process. Her long time crush Keith returns home...
Underneath It All introduces us to Monica Sutton, a single hardworking woman who is dealing with self-esteem issues. Monica feels that her weight is standing in the way of finding true love. Being overweight has always been a “shadow” that Monica can’t seem to escape. With encouragement from her close sister friends, Monica embarks on a weight loss journey to shed the pounds but ends up gaining so much more.
This story resonated with me because I know the struggles of being overweight, especially in today’s society. One of the things that I’m learning is to love myself where I am today! There’s nothing more beautiful than self-love.
Author Anita Davis did an exceptional job of taking readers through Monica’s discovery of self-love. There were so many gems the author dropped in this book, and I especially loved the poetry.

Now it’s time for me to let my reviewer cap lean to the side so I can give you my unfiltered thoughts on this story.
Chile… When Keith slid his way on the scene, I lost it. I understand Monica wanting to be cautious, but I wanted to jump through the book and pinch her arm. Get your man!! But I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read the book. I do wish I had a girlfriend circle like Monica and her friends. I can’t wait to learn more about the other characters, because I know there’s more juicy secrets – Underneath It All. (Pun Intended)
