moreEvery morning, Kris Pulaski wakes up in hell. In the 1990s she was lead guitarist of Dürt Würk, a heavy-metal band on the brink of breakout success until lead singer Terry Hunt embarked on a solo career and rocketed to stardom, leaving his bandmates to rot in obscurity.
Now Kris works as night man...
We Sold Our Souls starts by introducing us to Kris Pulaski, a teen who teaches herself to play the electric guitar because she loves heavy metal. Forming a band called Durt Wurk, before they could become famous a car accident changes everything. Now twenty years later, when Kris sees a billboard with the name of Koffin on it, that triggers some memories. This event causes her to want to dig deeper to figure out what went wrong, and we follow that journey with her. That journey is the catalyst for this story that those who like heavy metal will enjoy.
This book serves as a cautionary tale of what people will sell their souls for, in this case, musicians trading “their soul” for fame and fortune. It was hard to follow at times, but I chalk that up to me not being a fan of heavy metal.
If you like heavy metal during the 90’s – this book is for you.
