Confessions of a Happily Married Man: Finding God In the Messiness of Marriage by Joshua L. RogersPublished by FaithWords on 12/17/2019
Discover God in the messiness of your marriage, as popular marriage and family columnist Joshua Rogers offers spouses hope with real-life stories from his own marriage and helps you see how God is at work in the ordinary and extraordinary of your relationship.
Confessions of a Happily Married Man is not the book I was expecting it to be. I thought I was going to read about the candy-coated version of Love with a few sprinkles of bible verses. As a married woman of ten years and counting, I have realized people aren’t so forthcoming about their journey when it comes to Love. We usually meet couples where they are at the present moment, without realizing it wasn’t an overnight experience.
When I post things about my marriage on Social Media, the overall responses are the same… “Everyone should have a Will.” – “Does Will have a brother?” – “We need to bottle him up.” I always find myself laughing when I read the responses, because if they would have met my husband in 2005 – their responses would have been different. The same applies to me. The Will & Orsayor that people see have gone through some rough stuff. We are not the same people we were ten years ago.
In marriage, there’s always room to grow and improvement. Don’t let Hallmark movies tell you otherwise. I always say without God as the head of our marriage – I don’t think we would be together. Then again, if we were together without God – it would be a miserable experience.
Confessions of a Happily Married Man doesn’t shy away from the good and bad, or I should say the learning lessons of marriage. Author Joshua L. Rogers shares personal stories of his marriage and the sometimes painful experiences that come along when you say – I Do.
While reading this book, I would call or text my husband about different passages. I would share the bible verses included in the book, and we would discuss them. My husband is not an avid reader, but I saw him pick up this book a few times and smile while he was reading. The stories are so relatable that I laughed out loud a few times, especially with the suit jacket incident. The baby monitor incident was indeed an eye-opener for me.
If you are looking for a book that will invoke change in your marriage, this is the book for you. Author Joshua L Rogers gives it to you straight – no chaser!
One of my favorite reads of 2019!
