In Her Words: A Poetry Journal for and by Women by Marya LaythPublished by Rockridge Press on January 28, 2020
Pages: 130
Celebrate your voice, claim your power―with this women’s poetry journal.
The journey of poetry writing begins with a single line. Within these pages is an inspiring way to get started. In Her Words is a poetry journal for women who want to express themselves, reinforce their power, and magnify their writing journey. Poignant quotes from established female-identifying writers like Margaret Atwood and Audre Lorde will help guide you―one page at a time.
I believe poetry is one of the best ways to express your feelings. In Her Words by Marya Layth is a journal that is designed to spark the writer in you.
Positives:
The journal contains contact information where writers can submit their work.
The journal contains quotes from famous women poets.
Last but not least, the journal contains enough lined paper to get your creative juices flowing.
Cons:
I expected the journal to include writing prompts and a few writing exercises – since it encourages the writer to claim their power by writing what’s in their soul. I’m sure the writer can do the same thing in a regular notebook.
As a self-proclaimed journal snob, this journal didn’t have that “wow” factor that I look for when I’m searching for a personal journal.
Overall, when it comes to writing – the only thing a writer needs is space to write their thoughts. In Her Words provides the space, you need to get your ideas out of your head.

I’m becoming a journal geek as well. Writing in a journal is therapeutic for me especially while I’m on my weight loss journey to a healthier me. I need a lot more pros before buying this.
