The life of actor, choreographer, and musician Columbus Short has been punctuated with trauma that extends well beyond the plot lines of his previous role on the hit series Scandal. Short has lived many lives packed into one - from a family filled with turmoil to tumultuous love affairs and enough scandals of his own. But somewhere in the middle, Short’s realization that there has to be a better way comes into full view.
Short Stories not only details Columbus Short’s journey from childhood to Hollywood, it shows how even the most checkered of pasts can create a different person with the right amount of will and drive, especially when it comes to fulfilling your true destiny.
There comes a time in your life when you have to tell your story instead of others telling it for you. The difference is when you tell your story – it’s your truth because you have lived it. When you hear the name Columbus Short, I’m sure you can think of a headline/scandal (no pun intended) or two. The funniest thing about us humans is that we love to hear/read about a triumph story, but we also love to dwell on people’s mistakes or shortcomings.
This book has been on my TBR list for the longest, and I came across it again after scanning my Audible account this morning. I decided to purchase it once I saw that Columbus Short was doing the narration.
Drama aside, Columbus Short is a multi-talented individual with so many titles to his name. By listening to the narration, I knew that I would feel the raw emotion that could only come from his voice. After listening to the first five minutes of the audiobook, I felt as though Columbus took my hand and said to me, “Let me take you on this journey into the World of Columbus Short.”
Columbus Short gives readers a no-holds-barred recollection of the events of his life that have shaped him into the man he is TODAY! I was wondering if he would discuss one specific incident, but he didn’t. I smiled to myself because I understood why he chose not to. But as the title says, it’s short stories of his life. I’m sure if Columbus Short decided to write about everything in his life – the recording would have been over 48 hours.
Columbus Short is the true definition of never giving up on yourself – no matter how many people have counted you out. I applaud Columbus Short for sharing his story with the masses.
